Ios island :: Random beauty (part 2)

Archaeological excavations show that Ios was inhabited since the early Cyclades period (3200-2000 BC), which is actually a period that is known worldwide as the early Bronze Age. The best-known site on the island is Skarkos, where they found the remains of buildings that were reaching up to 3m in height, numerous pottery and tools made ​​of metal, stone and bone.
Another interesting fact is that Homer's mother was from Ios, even the tradition claims that Homer himself was buried here. Physical evidence for this claim does not exist, but the locals proudly show one tomb dedicated to Homer, which is located in the north of the island in the ancient city named Plakotos...

Arheoloska iskopavanja pokazuju da je Ios bio naseljen jos od ranog Kikladskog perioda (3200-2000 p.n.e.), sto je zapravo period koji je u svetu poznat kao rano bronzano doba. Najpoznatije nalaziste na ostrvu je Skarkos, gde su pronadjeni ostaci zgrada koje su dosezale i do 3m u visinu, brojna grncarija i orudje izradjeno od metala, kamena i kosti. 
Jos jedna zanimljivost je i ta da Homerova majka vodi poreklo sa ovog ostrva, cak je i prema nekim tvrdnjama i sam Homer sahranjen ovde. Fizicki dokazi za tu tvrdnju ne postoje, ali lokalci sa ponosom pokazuju grobnicu posvecenu Homeru koja se nalazi na severu ostrva u antickom gradu pod imenom Plakotos...
