Gouves | Crete island

The International Exhibition Center of Crete, where the fair in which we participate every January is held, is located in a place called Gouves, at the former American base.

Gouves is a larger area located about 16km from the city of Heraklion, and about 10km from the airport. It consists of several small villages, including the famous resorts: Kato Gouves and Pano Gouves. This is an inhabited area that faces the sea and it owes its development to tourism. The famous Cretan Aquarium is located just a few minutes from the exhibition center.

And on one nice yet windy day I managed to sneak out for half an hour, walk 'till the sea, and take some photos... 

Internacionalni izlozbeni centar Krita, gde se odrzava sajam na kome ucestvujemo svakog januara, se nalazi u mestu zvanom Gouves, i to u bivsoj Americkoj bazi.

Gouves je veca oblast udaljena oko 16km od grada Irakliona, i oko 10km od aerodroma. Obuhvata nekoliko manjih sela, ukljucujuci i poznata letovalista: Kato Gouves i Pano Gouves. Ovo je naseljena oblast koja izlazi na more i svoj razvoj duguje turizmu. Cuveni Kritski Akvarijum se nalazi na samo nekoliko minuta od izlozbenog centra.

A ja sam jednog lepog ali vetrovitog dana uspela da se na pola sata iskradem, prosetam do mora, i uslikam par fotografija...

Heraklion (Crete): Old Venetian Port

Venetian port (harbour) is the old port and the symbol of Heraklion, whose history is ancient as the history of the town. Currently it's one of the favorite strolling spots of the local people, as well as curious tourists. You can reach it following the pedestrian street from the center of the city.

The tower, which dominates the entrance, during the time of the Venetians carried the name "Sea Fortress", but during the time of the Turks it got the name "Koules" which preserved to this day. For the centuries it was one of the most important ports of the eastern Mediterranean due to the natural position of the bay, but nowadays it is equally packed with boats, ships and yachts...

Mletacka luka je stara luka i simbol Irakliona, cija je istorija duga kao i istorija samog grada. Trenutno je jedno od omiljenih setalista lokalnog stanovnista, ali i radoznalih turista. Do nje se stize pesackom zonom koja vodi iz centra grada.

Kula koja dominira ulazom je u vreme Mlecana nosila ime "Morska Tvrdjava" ali je u vreme Turaka preuzela ime "Koules" koje traje i do danasnjih dana. Nekada je vekovima bila jedna od najvaznijih luka istocnog Mediterana zbog prirodnog polozaja zaliva, ali je i sada podjednako krcata camcima, brodovima i jahtama...

Dior mini perfumes: Travel edition

I remember... I was maybe about 11-12 years old when my grandmother's friend gave me an emerald green bottle, then quite heavy for my small hand, on which was inscribed in gold: Christian Dior "Poison". That moment marked the beginning of my passionate love for invigorating liquids in luxurious glass bottles...

Nowadays we often seek escape from a reality and readily identify ourselves with the "imaginary" characters, just because we wish to live a different life, to exude a different kind of energy and beauty. Someone finds that escape in volumes of books, someone in adventurous movies or sugary soap operas. And me? Well I've found my way to invoke life of a princess from a fairy tale in a moment. I just have to spritz the perfume in the air, jump into the fragranced cloud that quickly disappears, and in one second my world turns pink...

Secam se... Imala sam mozda oko 11-12 godina kada mi je bakina prijateljica poklonila jednu smaragdno zelenu bocicu, tada tesku za moju tananu rucicu, na kojoj je zlatnim slovima bilo ispisano: Christian Dior "Poison". Taj trenutak je oznacio pocetak moje strastvene ljubavi prema opojnim tecnostima u luksuznim staklenim bocicama...

U danasnje vreme cesto trazimo beg od stvarnosti i spremno se poistovecujemo sa "imaginarnim" licnostima, u zelji da zivimo neki drugaciji zivot, da odisemo drugacijom energijom i lepotom. Neko taj beg pronalazi u tomovima knjiga, neko u avanturistickim filmovima ili zasecerenim telenovelama. A ja? Pa ja sam pronasla svoj nacin da makar i na trenutak zazivim zivotom princeze iz bajke. Potrebno je samo da sprcnem parfem u vazduh, uskocim u taj miomirisni oblak koji se brzo spusta i u sekundi moj svet postaje ruzicast...

OOTD: Winter Sailor

Day in Crete was sunny and warm for this time of the year, but windy. My new navy dress was swaying in the wind in a mischievous and flirty way, just like the waves in the distance that were greeting a beautiful winter day. The patent leather shoes were happily reflecting the shade of a dark blue sea water. And me? Well I felt like a sailor who, for some strange case, accidentally found himself in a mainland of the largest Greek island...

Dan na Kritu je bio suncan i topao za ovo doba godine, ali i vetrovit. Moja nova mornarska haljinica se veselo i nestasno njihala na vetru, bas kao talasi koji su u daljini pozdravljali lepi zimski dan. Plave lakovane cipelice su radosno reflektovale nijansu modre morske vode. A ja kao mornar koji se, nekim cudnim slucajem, neplanirano nasao na kopnu najveceg grckog ostrva...

A characteristic feature of Mykonos island is the large number of churches and chapels. It is believed that after the Second World War there were as many chapels and churches as there are days in a year. Their number now reaches the figure of 600 (number 800 is also mentioned somewhere), while in the capital city, Chora, there are about 60. Some chapels are really old, but most of them are built in the last two centuries.

The most famous church, and also the most photographed one, is Panagia Paraportiani, located in Chora. Asymmetrically shaped and whitewashed, this church is made ​​up of four chapels, and only one chapel is open to visitors. Its construction started in 1425 but wasn't completed until the 17th century...

Karakteristicno za ostrvo Mikonos je postojanje velikog broja crkvi i crkvica. Smatra se da je nakon II Svetskog rata ovde bilo toliko kapelica i crkvica koliko je i dana u jednoj godini. Njihov broj danas dostize cifru od preko 600 (negde se spominje i 800), dok u samom glavnom gradu, Hori, ima oko 60. Neke kapele su zaista stare, ali vecina njih je izgradjena u protekla dva veka. 

Najpoznatija crkva, a ujedno i najfotografisanija, jeste Panagia Paraportiana koja se nalazi u Hori. Okrecena u belo i asimetricnog oblika, ova crkva se sastoji iz 4 kapele i samo jedna kapela je otvorena za posetioce. Njena gradnja je zapoceta 1425 ali nije dovrsena sve do 17-og veka...

 

Mykonos beaches: Kalo Livadi, Agios Stefanos, Elia...

Kalo Livadi is one of the best organized beaches located in the south of the island. The long and big beach with soft sand and crystal clear water, is often the choice of the Greek high-society members, as well as the lovers of water sports. The only drawback is the extreme exposure to the wind so at the beginning of October this is a "wasteland" (unless you prefer sunbathing on the beach in a thicker jacket)...

Agios Stefanos is known as a family beach. This is also a frequent choice of the local population, as well as all those who don't like the noise and crowded atmosphere. Located next to the new port called Tourlos, and only 3.5km far from the town of Mykonos. Sweet, sandy and not so big, this beach has provided sun chairs and umbrellas. They say that here you can see the most beautiful sunset on the entire island.

Elia beach is considered to be one of the most attractive beaches of Mykonos. It is also the largest in the group of the beaches located in the south of the island. Accommodation is provided by the luxury spa hotels, small family hotels, bungalows, studios and private apartments. It is known as a "gay-friendly" beach, with specific areas dedicated to the nudists, yet any visitor can count on the personal privacy...

Kalo Livadi je jedna od najbolje organizovanih plaza koja se nalazi na jugu ostrva. Ova duga i velika plaza sa mekanim peskom i kristalno cistom vodom, je cesto izbor pripadnika grcke elite, kao i pravih ljubitelja sportova na vodi. Jedina mana je izrazita izlozenost vetru te je vec pocetkom oktobra ovde pustos (osim ako ne preferirate suncanje na plazi u debljoj jakni)...

Agios Stefanos je poznata kao porodicna plaza. Ujedno je i cest izbor lokalnog stanovnista, kao i svih onih koji ne zele buku i guzvu. Nalazi se pored nove luke pod imenom Tourlos (Turlos), i svega 3.5km udaljena od grada Mikonosa. Slatka, pescana i ne toliko velika plaza ima obezbedjene lezaljke i suncobrane. Kazu da ovde mozete videti najlepsi zalazak sunca na citavom ostrvu.

Elia plaza se smatra za jednu od najprivlacnijih plaza Mikonosa. Ujedno je i najveca u grupi plaza koje se nalaze na jugu ostrva. Smestaj obezbedjuju luksuzni spa hoteli, mali porodicni hoteli, bungalovi, privatna studija i apartmani. Poznata je kao "gej-druzeljubiva" plaza, sa odredjenim delovima namenjenim nudistima, mada svaki posetilac moze racunati na licnu privatnost...
