The International Exhibition Center of Crete, where the fair in which we participate every January is held, is located in a place called
Gouves, at the former American base.
Gouves is a larger area located about 16km from the city of Heraklion, and about 10km from the airport. It consists of several small villages, including the famous resorts: Kato Gouves and Pano Gouves. This is an inhabited area that faces the sea and it owes its development to tourism. The famous Cretan Aquarium is located just a few minutes from the exhibition center.
And on one nice yet windy day I managed to sneak out for half an hour, walk 'till
the sea, and take some photos...
Internacionalni izlozbeni centar Krita, gde se odrzava sajam na kome ucestvujemo svakog januara, se nalazi u mestu zvanom Gouves, i to u bivsoj Americkoj bazi.
Gouves je veca oblast udaljena oko 16km od grada Irakliona, i oko 10km od aerodroma. Obuhvata nekoliko manjih sela, ukljucujuci i poznata letovalista: Kato Gouves i Pano Gouves. Ovo je naseljena oblast koja izlazi na more i svoj razvoj duguje turizmu. Cuveni Kritski Akvarijum se nalazi na samo nekoliko minuta od izlozbenog centra.
A ja sam jednog lepog ali vetrovitog dana uspela da se na pola sata iskradem, prosetam do mora, i uslikam par fotografija...

Venetian port (harbour) is the old port and the symbol of Heraklion, whose history is ancient as the history of the town. Currently it's one of the favorite strolling spots of the local people, as well as curious tourists. You can reach it following the pedestrian street from the center of the city.
The
tower, which dominates the entrance, during the time of the Venetians
carried the name "Sea Fortress", but during the time of the Turks it got the name
"Koules" which preserved to this day. For the
centuries it was one of the most important ports of the eastern Mediterranean
due to the natural position of the bay, but nowadays it is equally packed with
boats, ships and yachts...
Mletacka luka je stara luka i simbol Irakliona, cija je istorija duga kao i istorija samog grada. Trenutno je jedno od omiljenih setalista lokalnog stanovnista, ali i radoznalih turista. Do nje se stize pesackom zonom koja vodi iz centra grada.
Kula koja dominira ulazom je u vreme Mlecana nosila ime "Morska Tvrdjava" ali je u vreme Turaka preuzela ime "Koules" koje traje i do danasnjih dana. Nekada je vekovima bila jedna od najvaznijih luka istocnog Mediterana zbog prirodnog polozaja zaliva, ali je i sada podjednako krcata camcima, brodovima i jahtama...
